Criteria:I thought making a flyer for incoming students was a good idea because they are quick and easy to read. Flyers are everywhere on campus. When I found these flyers I wanted my flyer to have the same affect as thse. They have just enough information for the reader to understand what they are trying to say. I also like how they used the colors and themes. The first and last example I like how they used a picture for their background and how it went with the even they were promoting. When I made mine I wanted something that related to campus. I decided Roongo was something I could incorportate into my flyer because he is all over campus. The second example used bright colors and I want to use that for my flyer because it'll catch the reader's attention and make them want to read it.Reflection:Dorm life is major adjustment to incoming freshmen. They're coming from living in a house with a lot of space and their own room to living with a stranger in one room with limited space. They have to learn each other's habits, likes and dislikes, and be able to agree on how they want to live together. Before, I moved into a dorm I heard a lot of stories, good and bad. I personally believe you make your experience. Instead of listening to other people's stories, I went to college with an open-mind ready to start my journey. This is why I made a flyer about . housing.Students see flyers as they walk down the halls of their dorms and around campus. It's a quick read to reassure their stay at Bloomsburg isn't as bad as what some people tell them. When i made my flyer I wanted it to be simple and to the point. I used bright colors, mainly Bloomsburg's colors. I wanted the title to stand out and grab the student's attention, so I made it large in a bright color. I used Roongo to help me promote housing because he is an important figure on campus. I think flyers are a great way to grab people's attention if they're made correctly. I think a good flyer has all the main points, but not too many words. Also, there should be color. You don't want dull, boring colors because no one will read it. There should be an image or two because they can have an influence on the person's opinion on the subject or influence their decision depending what the flyer is trying to emphasize. My flyer:
Criteria:When I saw these different examples of brochures, I looked at each and noticed they have a lot of similarites. They each have a bunch of picutures and large lettering to grab reader's attention. I took that and applied it to my brochure. Unlike a flyer a brochure had more details explaining the topic, but it still wasn't lengthy. I liked how these examples had a bunch of different colors and make it stand out compared to other brochures I have seen in the past. I think the way the brochure is set up is important too. I set mine up where it was easy for parents to read all the information in a way it flowed in an organzied manner. I didn't want information to be all over the place and have the parent get confused while they try to read it.Reflection:I thought about my parents when I put my brochure together. Preparing a child for college isn't easy even if you've done it before. Parents want to be informed about what's going to be be expected in coming years of their child's education. I know with my parents they like something quick and easy to read. I thought a brochure would be a great thing to make. It can give the right amount of information to parents without them reading a lot and feeling overwhelmed with sending their child off.The brochure I made was about preparing your child for residence life and some things residence life offers. I wanted parents to know their childe would be safe and there were many good qualities to living on campus. Looking at brouchures I noticed a lot of them had information summarized into small paragraphs. Something else I noticed was bulleted lists. I thought it would be a good idea to incorporate that into mine. My list was a list of belongings parents might want to get their child's room to make if feel like home.My brochure:
Genre #3: Satire Models CritiqueLooking at these satires they kinda made me laugh on how absurd they were. The first example is one of girl who is basically saying graduating and gaining an education is only getting her a job as a waitress and that's not true at all. Then the second one just contradicts itself, and the third one is saying why smoking is a good thing. Making satire I wanted to apply the contradictions of living in a dorm, and use some stories that people told me about how bad dorm life was. I want to add some color to make it stand out along with pictures.Reflections
I heard a lot of stories about living in a dorm. Hearing their stories about dorm life did intimidate me before college. Now that I live on campus I feel there are a lot of stereotypes. When students read the satire I want them to realize how absurd it sounds and make them think about their experiences with living on campus. I wanted to make it really stand out with using a lot of red because normally that means it's important and it's a danger color. Originally I didn't know what to make for my satire, but then looking at examples a lot them are pictures or flyers. I decided to make another flyer that goes along with the first one. It's like a postive and negative effect. My Satire:
